The right teachers are out there and other districts are hiring them
Teachers are leaving the profession at record numbers in Texas and the cost of living in Georgetown is high. The state legislature can't agree on how to increase funding for education. These are real challenges to expanding the dual language program all the way to 12th grade that aren't worth sugar coating. For our kids, however, it's worth advocating for the right thing, even if it's difficult. Local school districts are hiring the right teachers for dual language expansion from abroad and right here in Texas. Let's imagine we bring in teachers from abroad to fill our immediate need. In 10 years or so, we'll have a large, bilingual graduating class. Some of them will want to go on teaching dual language at Georgetown ISD. It'll take time, but we can make a homegrown solution to our teacher shortage.
