Bilingual graduates can earn 5%-20% more per hour than those who aren’t.
- Spanish bilingual individuals are more likely to go to college and to go to a 4-year college than monolingual or limited Spanish bilingual individuals. ~Rumbaut (2014) and Santibañez and Zárate (2014)
- By 2050, there will be 20 million Hispanics living in Texas.
- Bringing their educational attainment to the level of English-speaking natives and closing the income gap with them could increase the disposable income of Spanish-language natives by almost $1 trillion from their current $1.3 trillion (roughly the size of Mexico’s economy).
- Between 2010 and 2015, demand for bilingual employees rose more than 150%
- There has been a 30% increase in bilingual remote jobs.
- A 2019 survey among U.S. employers conducted by ACTFL revealed:
- 9 out of 10 employers rely on employees who can speak languages other than English.
- 56% reported that their demand for bi/multilingual speakers will increase in the next five years.
- 1 in 3 reported a language skills gap.
- 1 in 4 has lost business due to a lack of foreign language skills.
